Alaphilippe still in yellow after first big Tour climb

The primary super-tough 2,000-meter (6,500-foot) climb of the Excursion de France has proved to be no impediment for Julian Alaphilippe. The race chief saved his yellow jersey whilst protecting champion Geraint Thomas struggled up the Tourmalet go and misplaced time.

Thibaut Pinot received Saturday’s Degree 14 up the mythical ascent within the Pyrenees, making amends for a crisis on Degree 10, when he misplaced a variety of time.

Thomas cracked at the ultimate inclines to the highest of the go and could not stick with Pinot and Alaphilippe, who more and more seems to be justifying French hopes that he may turn out to be France’s first Excursion winner since 1985.
