Ecologist and peatland researcher obtain German Environmental Prize

Osnabrück/Darmstadt. The day gone by (Sunday) in Darmstadt, the German Federal Environmental Basis (DBU) honoured remarkable efforts within the battle in opposition to local weather exchange and to give protection to biodiversity with one in every of Europe’s maximum prestigious and extremely endowed environmental awards. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier introduced the German Environmental Prize to ecologist Prof. Dr. Katrin Böhning-Gaese (56) and peatlands researcher Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Joosten (66), who will probably be splitting the award, which comes with a remuneration of EUR 500,000. “The award recipients give us hope, as a result of they’ve proven us the equipment we will be able to use to battle local weather exchange and the species extinction disaster,” stated Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, head of the Board of Trustees of the DBU. DBU Secretary Common Alexander Bonde emphasised the award winners’ willpower: “We want an awakening for extra local weather coverage and species conservation.”
