Yekaterinburg church protests: Putin calls for public vote

Russian President Vladimir Putin has intervened in an ongoing row over a brand new church in Yekaterinburg.

He stated the Russian Orthodox Church “must unite other people, now not divide them”, and known as for the plans to construct a church in a park to be put to a ballot.

His intervention follows 4 days of protests by means of 1000’s of town citizens.

Town’s deputy mayor stated development could be suspended, whilst a survey used to be carried out.
